Due to its network character the activities of ENSSEE are various. Mostly, the network concentrates on projects trying to develop and promote the sector of sports and sport sciences on a European (political) level. Areas include Physical Education, Sport Coaching, Health & Fitness, Sport Management, Sport Employment and e-learning in sport.

 
European Sport Education Information Platform - SOPHELIA PDF Print E-mail

The European Sport Education Information Platform SOPHELIA is ENSSEE's working platform and bundles up to date information about sport education in Europe to its stakeholders.

The idea to create an European Sport Education Information Platform was developed by the sport related Thematic Network Project AEHESIS 'Aligning a European Higher Educational Structure In Sport Science' that was funded between 2003 and 2007 by the SOKRATES Programme of the European Commission and coordinated by the Institute of European Sport Development & Leisure Studies at the German Sport University Cologne on behalf of the European Network of Sport Science, Education & Employment - ENSSEE.

The Greek name of the Information Platform, Sophelia, was chosen in accordance with the existing European education programmes and originates from the two words Sophia (wisdom) and Ophelia (use) that already refer to the aim of the platform to bundle information about sport education in Europe and to distribute it properly to its stakeholders.

ENSSEE Forum PDF Print E-mail

In order to gather stakeholders dedicated to Sport Education in Europe, ENSSEE regularly organises a biennial Forum where projects and initiatives developing the sector are presented.

Traditionally the ENSSEE Forums´ are meeting points for everybody who is interested in encouraging greater European co-operation in relation to research, education and employment in sport and the increase of mobility and the exchange of students, teaching staff and professionals. Experts from all over Europe are coming together to work on the convergence of education and training systems for sport related professions in the EU.

ENSSEE has major experience in different areas which will represent the framework of the Forums´ program. In general the Forum will provide sessions and workshops chaired and held by experts from the areas of Sport Management, Sport Coaching, Physical Education and Health & Fitness (Physical Activity and Life-Style) according to the work carried out through the AEHESIS project.

European Sport Workforce Development Alliance PDF Print E-mail

The strategic committee called “European Sport Workforce Development Alliance” was created to bring together the major network organisations working in the sport sector to share and discuss issues around the development of the European Sport Workforce.

Short News 


The European Commssion invites to tender for a study to assess the sport sector's contribution to the Europe 2020 strategy. The exact topic of the study is the contribution of sport to economic growth and employment in the EU. The deadline for the call submittance is 4 October 2010.

The new bachelor degree "Physical Activity and Lifestyle Counseling" will be introduced. The EC granted the bid by Hanzehogeschool Groningen. The degree will start in October and will be running for three years.

 

The bachelor was thought necessary because there is a growing number of peolpe worldwide suffering from health problems due to an unhealthy lifestyle. In order to intervene this develop-ment, students of the "PA-LC" bachelor will gain expertise in physical activity, nutrition, and one-on-one counseling.


The ENSSEE database provides contact details for over 500 study courses and programs across Europe and was developed during the AEHESIS project.
