The aim of the “European Coaching Council” (ECC) will be to promote the development of coaching across Europe by providing clear reference points for education, development, qualification and employment of coaches. These reference points will be developed with and made available for EU member states, international federations, Higher Education and other agencies. 

Furthermore, the Council will produce reports, recommendations and guidelines on best practice from a European perspective for consideration by member states and international and national sports bodies, organizations, federations and agencies. The Council will work under the principle of subsidiarity and will be lead by Dr. Patrick Duffy (Leeds Metropolitan University, UK) and Dr. Ladislav Petrovic (Hungarian Sports Confederation, HU). 

The European Coaching Council functions bot, as an expert group and sub-committee of ENSSEE and simultaneously as a continental group of the International Council for Coach Education (ICCE).


 


 

Short News 


The European Commssion invites to tender for a study to assess the sport sector's contribution to the Europe 2020 strategy. The exact topic of the study is the contribution of sport to economic growth and employment in the EU. The deadline for the call submittance is 4 October 2010.

The new bachelor degree "Physical Activity and Lifestyle Counseling" will be introduced. The EC granted the bid by Hanzehogeschool Groningen. The degree will start in October and will be running for three years.

 

The bachelor was thought necessary because there is a growing number of peolpe worldwide suffering from health problems due to an unhealthy lifestyle. In order to intervene this develop-ment, students of the "PA-LC" bachelor will gain expertise in physical activity, nutrition, and one-on-one counseling.


The ENSSEE database provides contact details for over 500 study courses and programs across Europe and was developed during the AEHESIS project.
